Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove sausage from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add diced onion and bell pepper. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the rice, Cajun seasoning, and smoked paprika. Toast the rice for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Pour in chicken broth, honey, and soy sauce. Stir well to combine all ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-18 minutes.
- Return the cooked sausage to the skillet, stirring to combine. Cover and cook for another 5 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and let stand covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve hot.
Notes
Use high-quality Cajun seasoning without added salt to control sodium level. Adjust honey for sweetness preference and add cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes for extra heat. The dish reheats well and can be stored for up to 3 days.
